Position: Utility Pole Inventory Technician
Location: Nationwide Travel
Status: Full-Time

Position Requirements
- A general working knowledge of all telecom equipment types’ communication drops fiber optics, cable TV attachment types, basic understanding of a utility pole and an understanding of telecommunications construction practices.
- Must have basic computer skills and a working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Excel and Word.
- Must be a self-starter, accepting of responsibility and willing to work independently.
- Must possess good people skills and the ability to coordinate with a broad spectrum of client personnel.
- Must be willing to travel at least 75 percent of the year, including periods of 3 to 8 weeks.
- Must be willing to work flexible work schedules.
- Must be willing to work in all weather conditions.
- Must be able to walk 6 to 10 miles per day.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds of equipment for long periods of time.
- Must have reliable transportation and required insurance for regional travel.
- Must have excellent oral and written communications skills.
- Must be willing to multitask, able to adapt to changing environments and willing to learn.
- Must possess good organizational and analytical skills.
- All technicians are required to work a 40-hour workweek.
- Must be able to pass a background check (criminal and driving record) and drug screening.
- Must be able to read a map and understand latitude and longitude coordinates.
College education preferred but heavy emphasis is placed on prior work experience, attitude and willingness to learn.
Job Description
An Outside Plant Inventory Technician conducts outside plant facilities inspections and inventories utilizing Alden JRM Collect™ software and equipment as directed by the assigned project manager.
The Technician will work in designated telecommunications and power company territories as directed. All inventory data will be collected to meet client and Alden quality standards.
Duties of the position include, but are not limited to the following:
Record a GPS location and/ or place asset on the Collect™ tool within 5 meters of the asset’s geospatial location
Collect the required data with a quality rating of 98% per attribute type
Apply an asset tag curbside to each pole that is accessible with 4 galvanized nails.
Maintain a working knowledge of current Alden software and data collection tools.
Utilize current Alden software and standard work processes, as directed, to conduct pole inventories in the designated assigned areas. Inventoried items shall include Pole attributes relating to joint use attachments, pole data and violations or other attributes that may be required by the client Company.
Maintain equipment in good working order and manage supplies provided by Alden systems in an efficient and economical manner.
Review all pole data collected prior to the submission of such work as specified by the project management both through a visual review and through the use of Alden data quality analysis tools to insure both accuracy and completeness.
Upon completion of such inventories and the required review, or as specified, transfer inventory data to the designated recipient in the format required which in most all instances will be through a web-based electronic transfer.
Upon completion of such inventories, or as specified, provide any other reporting data or documentation as specified either by the client or Alden in a timely fashion.
While engaged in an inventory or related activity, observe and act in accordance with all Alden and client safety and operational requirements.
Complete all job and safety related training, required by either the client or Alden, in the time frames specified, including the completion and submission of all related, required documentation.
Make contacts with local client personnel, as instructed, in advance of all scheduled inventories to insure site preparedness and clarification of all identification and access requirements.
Maintain close contact with the assigned project manager and report any unusual occurrences or equipment issues in a timely manner and cooperate as needed to resolve such issues.
